Statistics create reality - symbiotic dialectical relationship between reality and stats. Data collected by police regarding crimes known by the police to have occurred. Goal: to provide uniform and comparable national stats. Two versions / types: ucr aggregate survey, collects summary data for 100 separate criminal offences. Divided into violent crime, property crime, and other criminal code violations. Police adding up all of the crimes in their jurisdiction that ts into one of the three categorizes. Some data on person - sex, age, Not a lot of speci c data - general category: ucr incident-based survey, collects more detailed information on each incident, victims, accused, more detailed info - micro data. Will say speci cs of crime - example: detailed description of robbery ect. Monday, january 30, 2017: details about person. Ucr aggregate data presented as crime rate. Crime rate expressed as a number of criminal incidents for every 100,000 canadians.
