CRCJ 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Corporate Crime, Richard Cloward, Noxious Stimulus
Document Summary
Sociological theories of crime: strain theory. Theories that believe that crime is caused by factors outside of the individual, things that are external to the individual. Criminals and delinquents are just normal people (assumption) whose behaviour is in uenced by social structures and their environment. There is something wrong about society and how it is organized. Two main sociological perspectives: consensus perspective. Mostly people share similar views, morality is universal. Alot of unity, we are in agreement with one another: con ict perspective. Criminal law re ects the interests of powerful groups. Powerful groups are the ones that create and enforce the laws. Con ict between those who are powerful and those who are not (who are criminalized) One of the main assumptions is that societies have a bunch of institutions and most of the people share the same values, and these institutions work together to contribute to the smooth running os society.
