An ecosystem contains the interacting systems made up of all living and nonliving objects in a defined volume of space (weathers et al. Ecosystem ecology focuses on the pools and fluxes of energyy and materials. A compartment contains a given quantity of material called a pool. The rate of exchange between compartment is called the flux rate. Flux can be driven by biotic or abiotic mainly driven by rocks. The primary production stores the energy through the formation oforganicmolecules from inorganic molecules. Accumulate in biomass: accumulate in a plant (ie trees who can live for decades). Detritus: then the plant dies very quickly. The majority of the ecosystems in the planet are the oceans which are extremely unproductive. [analysis of the results of multiple studies]- meta-analysis. Why id nitrogen such a limiting factor: nitrogen is one of the founding elements, the more nitrogen there is the more photosynthesis occurs because of how the nitrogen drives photosynthesis.
