This graph gives us the value of r^2 ~0. 25 (there is a lot of variables but size explains 25% of the trend) And although the slop would be the same the variation is smaller so the r^2 is smaller. ~0. 06 (r^2 of 0 means that there is a flat line and the slope is 0) If there is no correlation between x and y it is very likely that x does not cause y. ***don"t worry about doing the actual math just know how to interpret it*** In the shoe size example: the height of a person is not causing the foot size to be larger, one can just be explained by the other. The trend is the differences in the mean.
