BIOL 1902 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Genetic Variation, Allele Frequency, Phenotypic Plasticity

9 views4 pages

Document Summary

Traits = anything that one can measure (metabolic rate, heart rate, height, freckles etc) The differences between the red back salamander (phenotypic for colour) is polymorphic. In a histogram representing a set of data: the x-axis is the continuous variable and the y-axis is the count and or the frequency. In biology we are more interested in the spread between the bars than the height of the bars. Spread meaning the amount of bars- the more bars there are the more groups there are and therefore more variation. Will not be talked about a whole lot so do not focus on. Look in the textbook missed the talking. Alleles are variant forms of a gene (2 sets of chromosomes) (21 chromosomes) just in case you forget . All of the mutations in the picture are called point mutations because only one letter in the sequence gets messed up.
