Learning that takes place within an academic setting, such as a school, which has a planned instructional process and teachers who convey specific knowledge, skills, and thinking processes to students. From the middle ages until the end of world war i, only the sons of the privileged classes were able to attend european universities. As societies industrialize, the need for formal education of the masses increased significantly. But it was a highly racialized and gendered enterprise. In the industrialized revolution it became a norm to have experience and university which many could not. Reality of school life varied by rural areas or urban, poor or rich, immigrants, males and females. Schools conformed to create certain types of workers (white collared) The dollar does not have the same value (you could get way more with a dollar back in the day than now) the same applies to a degree, it means less now.
