Beauty is femininity: amborse bierce (1958) said, to men a man is but a mind. But a woman"s body is the woman. : despite societal changes, his statement still rings true. Women are equated to their body and therefore beauty/attractiveness is a prerequisite for femininity but not for masculinity: the word beauty refers to the female body. In western culture beauty refers to the white female body. Advertising: turning women into objects: advertising is part of a cultural climate that perceives and represents women as things, as objects, this objecti cation is one of the rst steps toward justifying violence against them. Racism, sexism, homophobia are a part of this same process: objecti cation results in violence against women. !3: all forms of violence against women, symbolic to physical, express what herman calls a rape culture in which men dominate women.
