Document Summary

Your memory of an event is activated. There is a retrieval of episodic and semantic memories. Straight forward response if you tell the truth. If you decide to tell a lie, you must then inhibit the truth (using inhibitory control) Then you have to construct alternative response (planning phase) If you tell the truth at this decision point, you just report what you"ve seen, but lie telling takes much more time. So there is a greater response time when you are telling a lie. Fmri studies: tell the truth or lie. Found the response time factor was there and also found that the frontal lobe was particularly important compared to when telling the truth. Reaction time differences and neurological differences in terms of activation of the frontal lobes when telling a lie. Lying: requires more time and invovles frontal lobe of the brain. Theoretically, working memory and inhibitory control are important for telling a lie.
