Lecture 7- diffusions of innovations: promoting ethics and full body scans. Reasoning by value: world view-medicare vs. pay for care, american vs. canadian models of care, basic principles-discuss today, rules and codes-physicians, pharmacists etc, eg. Catholic pharmacists providing birth control to unwed mothers: eg. Bio ethics: autonomy, respected for persons individual rights, veracity, always be truthful, beneficence, doing good, optimizing benefits over burdens. 1: non-maleficence, not doing harm, justice, a group of norms for distributing benefits, risks, and costs fairly. Autonomy: respect for person and individual rights. Individual is free to choose: self determination, problem-seat-belts- when do we restrict autonomy, informed consent, only works if patient understands, professional shares information, special case of health professionals, they all have the info. Walking is good exercise (e. g. health canada guide), but should we send a much more complex package for full disclosure: sars: autonomy vs. social good, rights and freedoms restricted by medical people- quarantine.
