Management, motivation, and leadership: bringing business to life. The number one thing a manager does is make decisions. Manager is a title but a leader is someone you look up to. Achieving the goals of an organization throughplanning, organizing, leading and controllng organizational resources including people, money and time. Top management: articulate vision, establish priorities. Middle management: facilitate communication, coordinate teams. First line management: train, motivate, and evaluate employees, manage daily process. Good managers motivate others to reach their best. Not always accurate because more than one need at a time: psychological, safety, social (belonging, esteem, self- actualization. Part theory x world and part theory y world. Creating jobs with meaningful content and creative work involves: Centres on the relationship among individual effort, individual performance and individual reward. Centres on how the perception of fairness directly impacts worker motivation. The planning function is core to effective management; the best plans keep.
