Problems and solutions 3: work-lives, public policy and social programs: recognizing work-lives. Work lives are affected beyond the work place. Emphasis on paid work (now of days we take a broader approach. Work is not the only thing affecting them. Unpaid work in relation to paid work. Most unpaid work is done in homes (ex. care/giving work, domestic labour, reproductive labour/social reproduction) Whose doing it? (women more dominant, but men now do some [for every 2 hours women do work in the house, men do 1]) Prompts us to think of the influence of our bodies and our health. How does our health affect our paid labour and how does paid labour affect our health. Precarious work is on the rise (lousy, low paying, not enough hours, etc. ) More discrimination, harassment, etc. based on what you do. Are there the support of the services that we need in the aspects of our lives: public policy and social programs.
