Definition: the art and science of govnt . Working class: everyone who sells their ability to work to an employer in exchange. Politics occurs at the level of govnt and the state and involves party competition for a wage (hourly wage/salary) Politics x working class x world of work. Definition: an organized political structure of power and authority in complex societies. Government: particular group (political party) in control of state apparatus; policy- making. Bureaucracy: ministries and departments responsible for different areas of policy. Law and courts: adjudication of society"s rules; protection of citizens from state and from each other. Military and police: rules enforcement through use of coercion; management of violence . Representative institutions: includes opposition; expresses different political and social views. Social supports when not in paid work: unemployment, social assistance. Education: extent and kind of public education shapes quality of labour force (such as skills and abilities). Immigration: number and types of workers from outside the state.
