The changing world of work: poverty, unemployment and the end of (paid) work. Global south (cont. : new working class, new labour struggles. As capitalism globalizes so does awareness for labour struggles. China no rights like in canada (ex/ free speech) Demanding better pay and improved working conditions. Fight for social protections like health care, unemployment insurance, public pension. Ex/ china: 2012, workers were on 1,378 times. Nearly 2x the number of strokes and protests in 2013 (china labour bulletin) Increase in labour unrest in global south but decrease in global north. Have all these institutions (universal healthcare, unemployment insurance etc. ) Same job different pay ( vs respectively) Government looks other way when employer picks up and leaves. Welfare looks at assets and says to spend money before you get any money. Fewer social services and less spending on those that are still here. Companies find any way to nit pay taxes.
