I say something and i attend that you"re going to understand what you"re going to mean. That"s what we are really looking at. You make an utterance but most of the time it doesn"t make it to the other end. All the people that is studying linguistics. Use of language and then all the people look at how linguistics is looked at throught their different disciplines. Dictionary definition; doesn"t necessarily follow that definition (s) Arbitrary; people decide this is the definition of something and just go with it. Source; you are going to say something. You encode what you want to say with that background. And then that message will have all the elements and then go through a channel (through listening)
