Discussion of gender in terms of culture. Gender: a set of culturally defined behaviours that reflect perceptions of how biologically determined sexes should behave (jeff"s deff) Most cultures identify 2 genders which are based on differentiation of the biological sexes. The word sex is more frequently used to refer to biological features based on chromosomal evidence that distinguish males from females. The word gender is more often used to refer to the learned behaviours and attitudes associated with the words feminine and masculine. Ethnocentric perception of specific actions and behaviours: measuring individual worth according to income, political participation. Cuddy, crotty, and norton (2010) argue for: a casual relationship between core cultural values and the contents of gender stereotypes: men in general are seen as possessing more of whatever characteristic is more culturally valued.
