HLSC 2P49 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Health Belief Model, Disulfiram, Transtheoretical Model
Document Summary
A way of understanding/explaining how things work. Health belief model: sense of threat. Self-efficacy: sometimes linked to health belief model. Social engineering: plans/intentions to do something, stages of change (precontemplation maintenance, modifying the environment itself. Which theory emphasizes subjective norms: theory of planned behaviour. Large number of techniques that are used within the approach to understand people"s behaviours and change them unhealthy behaviours. All the techniques stress how we learn health behaviours and can unlearn. All target behaviour itself: ex) smoking. What conditions (cues) trigger the behaviour: ex) a person smokes in a certain condition and has certain triggers. What are the reinforcements that maintain it: what are the outcomes (rewards) that the person obtains when doing the particular behaviour, gaining something during or after doing it, ex) often use self-observation/self monitoring. # times, time of day, with whom, how feeling, thoughts when smoking: use this approach to deal with contingences and figure out the linkages to the behaviour.
