Different cultures have different ways of communicating. Must be willing to accept differences as no one culture is superior. Appear interested, actively engaged in the interaction and open/willing to exchange ideas and thoughts. If you want to learn more about someone you must share details with them in order to make them comfortable to share details about you. Allows you to share feelings, concerns, communicated wants and needs and share thoughts/opinions. One states: intimacy involved feelings of emotional closeness and connectedness with another person and the desire to share each others innermost thoughts and feelings. Characterized by attitudes of mutual trust, caring and acceptance. In this chapter defined in terms of three characteristics shared with close friends, family and romantic partners: behavioural interdependence. Refers to the mutual impact that people have on each other as their lives and daily activities become intertwined. Can reach the point that each person would feel a void without the other: need fulfillment.
