Reading with expression/prosody: read with speedaccuracyand proper expression, an individual who is fluent understands what he/she is reading, word recognition is automatic freeing up working memory for understanding what is read, reading with expression = comprehension. Two- readers: fluent, speed, accuracy, expression, non-fluent, word by word reading, mistakes in word identification, poor expression. Four reading cuing system: semantic (meaning)- does it make sense, syntactic (structure)-does it sound right, graphophonic (visual)-does it look right. Analysis of poorer readers: slow reading rates, fewer self-corrections, over rely on graphophonemic cues, meaningless substitutions, poor prosody. Strategic fluency: balance between meaning abstraction and speed regulation appropriate for the purpose of reading, comprehension, responds to demands for expression, varies phrasing, pitch, tone, rhythm, loudness, speed, pauses. Deep fluency: all of previous skills, reflection for specific purpose, self-regulation of process metacognition. Fluent reading requires : word recognition, vocabulary, syntax, speed/automaticity, generating inferences, relevant prior knowledge, comprehension.
