Rome was not situated in a significant place. Located in a swampy region so water was easy to come by and made it very fertile. Where many mosquitos; people caught malaria very often (life expectancy was short) It was a tiny area that expanded to take over the entire world. Founded by romulus and remus: sons of mars. Any murder between family was considered terrible in the ancient world. There were 6 kings in rome (romulus was one of them) 509 bc: rome throws out the royal family (tranquins) because they hate them. A republic is established under elected consuls that were changed yearly. Republican period (power sharing arrangement headed by 2 consuls) All citizens where equal under the law. Women and slaves still didn"t have a say. If you moved to rome you were a roman citizen. Alexandria was the biggest city at the time and it was better than rome.
