BIOL 1F25 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Axon Terminal, Sensory Neuron, Motor Neuron
Document Summary
Cell body of a neuron is no different from any other cell. Inputs: when a neuron receives info from another neuron it comes in from the dendrites. Axons: generally, information transmitting areas (only one axon emerges from the cell body: outputs, very large process, moves away from the cell body, usually one main axon that comes off of a neuron. Axon hillock: main part of the cell body: gives rise to the axon. Shape: pyramidal cells of hippocampus, cell body appears as a pyramid. Location: cerebellum cerebellar cells, hippocampus hippocampal cells, 3 cells in a row relaying info from one to the next location in circuit: primary, secondary, etc. Dendrites receive info from other neurons and sensory receptors. Cell body receives info from dendrites, and if enough stimulation is received the message is passed on to the axon. Axon carries neuron"s message to other body cells.
