Two principles of torts: the fault of the defendant (that is, whether the behaviour was improper, the causation of harm (that is, whether the plaintiff"s injury was the result of the defendant"s conduct) Strict liability: liability is not based on fault liable even if blameless, often imposed through legislation. Public policy: economic, social and political considerations or objectives that are believed to be beneficial to society as a whole, determines whether liability should be based on fault or on strict liability. Liability of employer to compensate for torts committed by an employee during the course of his or she employment. Harm or damage must occur for it to be actionable. Examples: assault/ battery/ nuisance/ defamation/ false imprisonment/ malicious prosecution)/ trespass.
