Document Summary

Measure how much time a baby continues to play when a stranger enters the room. After about a minute, the mother is instructed to leave the room: separation. Mother stays out for a couple of minutes. One of the key measures of attachment is what does the baby do when mom leaves: a securely attached baby will melt" into their parents, most babies (about two thirds) are securely attached, see graphic on slides. Parental behaviour: all sorts of parental behaviour affects a child"s development, this includes relationship between parents. Parents were encouraged to have as many children as possible, which lead to the abandonment of many children as parents couldn"t afford to feed them the children were sent to orphanages. Had an impact on decreased height, weight, head circumference, development. Researchers went to the romanian government, convinced them there was a problem. Offered to set up a foster care system so children could leave the orphanage.
