Answer the following questions (250 words max/question): explain the concept of program-data independence, and explain how it is achieved in the database approach. In file processing system, the file descriptions are stored within each database application program that accesses a given file. Since the program contains a detailed file description for these files, any change occur to a file structure requires changes to the file descriptions for all programs that access the file. The program-data independence is the separation of these data descriptions from the application programs that use the data. This can be achieved by storing the data descriptions in a central location called repository. This property of data(cid:271)ase s(cid:455)ste(cid:373)s allo(cid:449)s a(cid:374) orga(cid:374)izatio(cid:374) s data to (cid:272)ha(cid:374)ge a(cid:374)d de(cid:448)elop gradually within limits without changing the application programs that process the data. Older data models and database management software was not built on program-data independence concept.
