Vasculature: pulsatile pumping continuous flow, blood vessels function to provide route, allow for exchange (capillaries) and to control + regulate bp. & pressure: 1/3 of the vasculature deals with pulsatile flow, arterial system deals with huge fluctuations of pressure, when we get to capillaries have constant flow any changes would be detrimental. Circulatory system: co is the same for left heart and right heart. Blood vessels: structure enables specific functions, aorta (1, absorb pulse pressure (systolic pressure diastolic pressure) and release energy creating diastolic pulse. 5 diffusion routes: water, ions and small molecules such as glucose, diffuse between adjacent and endothelial cells or through fenestrated capillaries, some ions (na+, k+, ca+2, cl-, diffuse through channels in cell membranes. Large water-soluble compounds: only pass through fenestrated capillaries via large carrier proteins. Lipids and lipid-soluble materials such as o2 and co2: diffuse through endothelial cell membranes, faster than throguh fenestrations, plasma proteins, cross endothelial lining in sinusoids.
