Water: ~55-60% of weight of adult animals are water, mostly inside the cell, interstitial fluid and blood plasma. The role in cell medium is for transport of nutrients, enzyme reactions and transfer of chemical energy. Role in cells is for energy source, it is the subunit of polysaccrides (carbohydrates). A major role in energy storage: monosaccarides has 2 or more hydroxyl groups oh. It has many isomers, differs in spatial arrangement of atoms, meaning glucose, galactose and mannose have the same formula however has different arrangements (isomers). Fatty acid: compounds composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The differences being unsaturated has one or more double bonds and saturated has no double bonds: examples of significance for fatty acids = obesity and fa deficiencies may disrupt cell function.
