PSYC2013 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Tupperware, Physical Attractiveness, Chameleon
Document Summary
Liking - we tend to more likely to comply with people we like rather than ones we don"t like. People tend to favour and comply with people that they know and like. Ex: tupperware party - a hostess (who is your friend) gathers her friends at their home and spend time looking/admiring the tupperware and play games. Frenzen & davis (1990) - when deciding whether or not to buy a product, liking for the hostess was twice as important as opinion about the products. You can be swayed by the fact that you like the person. Four factors that determine whether or not we will like someone: physical attractiveness. It"s universal - we all love beautiful people. We learn very early in life about the power of physical attractiveness. Ex: cinderella is pretty = good things happen to her vs her step sisters are ugly = they are mean and bad things happen to them.
