Document Summary

Diploid organisms have two alleles at each locus. An order of dominance between alleles can from an allelic series. An example of an autosomal recessive disease is cystic brosis (cf): 1 in 3,000 newborns a ected, lungs and other organs produce sweat, uids and mucus. Inherited as a single gene, pattern is easily followed as the phenotype is highly characteristic. Polymorphisms appear along chromosomes in a speci c population, they can come in all sorts of ways (e. g. deletions, insertions etc). Opens up variation, and allows us to locate genes in a chromosome. Cf gene was linked with two polymorphic markers, located on chromosome 7. An example of an autosomal dominant disease is huntington"s disease (hd): Huntington disease is a progressive brain disorder that causes uncontrolled movements, emotional problems, and loss of thinking ability (cognition). Caused by an extension of glutamine residue on chromosome 4. Pink owers are heterozygous, phenotype is in between both parents.
