Why invest: the characteristics of office spaces are economically significant. In australia, the costs of inadequate office accomodation are high: combined losses from work-related absences (absenteeism) and/or decreased productivity while at work (presenteeism) amount to aud. 33 billion per year: we most most of time indoors almost 90% of this time is spent at work, the quality of indoor environments may affect workers(cid:495) satisfaction, productivity, health and wellbeing. Open-plan layouts have evolved signi cantly over the last decades: From cellular offices (cell) to open-plan (hive); Abw is a concept that requires the workspace layout to be designed to accommodate a variety of work-related activities. Abw expands the boundaries from the individual workstation to the entire office footprint by allowing workers to gravitate towards the best spot to develop the task in hand. It removes desk-ownership and forces workers to work from different areas/ oors everyday. Workspace selection & corporate culture: workplace serves as other symbolic functions depending on organisational culture.
