EXSS2025 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Oscilloscope, Weight-Bearing, Training Wheels
Document Summary
Concept 1: 2 broad types of feedback, task-intrinsic feedback information that is a natural part of performing a motor skill, augmented feedback information that is external to the person adding to or enhancing task-intrinsic feedback. Concept 4: augmented feedback is important in early stages of learning (cognitive & associative phases, explanation, the learner doesn(cid:495)t yet know what the correct movement is & what it feels like when performed correctly. Implication: giving good instructions that promote development of correct technique from the beginning is important; otherwise faults could be automated. Implication: feedback indicating an error may be the only feedback that comes into consciousness. Task: throwing a soft (cid:858)nerf(cid:859) ball for distance with the non-dominant arm: kr subjects given verbally by the experimenter as the distance thrown on each trial (in feet and inches). In the three kp conditions there was no kr given. In the kp-basic condition, subjects watched a video of the last trial.
