o Use what you have learned about how to analyse an article we have studied to analyse
an article that is new to you and which is studying a different culture
o Use what you have learned about how to compare and contrast articles about two
different cultures to compare a familiar article with with a new one
What have we learned about analysis?
o Recognising the different aspects of culture: learned, shared, symbolic, material,
integrated
o Recognising the difference between evidence and argument
o Understanding the relationship between evidence and argument
o Recognising that definitions lead to finer analytic distinctions.

o We are using the definitions as the basis of comparison.

o You are NOT arguing that actual beliefs and practices are similar or different
Culture as a Process:
o Discussion of the relationship between aspects of culture.
o Each aspect of culture may reinforce others
o Aspects of culture may all be involved in livelihood or in the making of persons
o Holism and integration are important to the recognition of culture as a process
