ANAT2010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Skeletal Muscle, Motor System, Nucleus Ambiguus
Document Summary
Lecture 10 autonomic motor system (aka visceral motor system) Somatic: actions multiple, widespread, slow, wide coordinated and graded control, commands all tissue and organ except skeletal muscle, outside cns, disynaptic pathway, rapid and accurate, only peripheral targets, commands only skeletal muscle, within cns, monosynaptic pathway. Increased hr & bp: depressed digestive system, slower hr (& often bv) Increased digestive functions (gut: mobilized glucose reserves, orgasm (gonads) Longer post-ganglionic fibres: store glucose (liver, decreased sweating (skin, erection & lubrication (gonads, triggers micturition (gonads) Sympathetic trunk/chain: entire length of vertebral column, ganglia (paravertebral) associated with vertebral levels, paravertebral ganglia usually found on aorta, or organ of innervation, terminal ganglion impar", superior, middle, inferior cervical ganglia. Join spinal nerve: enter sympathetic ganglion, synapse on sympathetic post-ganglionic cell. Leave & enter spinal nerve: enter dorsal & ventral primary rami. Join spinal nerve: enter & transverse sympathetic ganglion. Leave & enter sympathetic chain (trunk: ascend/descend then synapse on ganglion cell.
