Bio-ethics in animal + human studies: there are 2 types of ways in which research on animals can be done: in vivo research, in vitro research. In vivo research research directly in animals. (cells i(cid:374) co(cid:374)trolled e(cid:374)viro(cid:374)(cid:373)e(cid:374)ts kept outside of the living organism, mimicking the organism. : there is an ethical issue of animals sensing pain, stress, fear and isolation in in vivo study. Effects likely to be predictive of human physiology/pathology. High variability due to low numbers, genetic and environmental heterogeneity. Animal experiments are accepted only when strict guidelines can be met. The use of animals is regulated by legislation and by animal welfare committees (such as the. Australian code of practice* for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes) Animal care and usage is monitored and outcomes are reported (mainly the adverse outcomes for the animal and protocols) and protocols are reviewed to prevent repetition.
