Document Summary
A foundation document of project management that provides the basis for planning and managing project schedules, costs, resources and changes. It defines the scope of a project and depicts a task- based tree of activities. It is developed to show the activities that make up the project and the relationship between them, and define how we develop the end product and what our definition of done is. Guidelines: if guidelines, company or industry wide, exist for creating a wbs for your project-type then you should follow these while reviewing appropriate information to ensure your wbs is relevant to your unique project. Lots of companies provide guidelines and templates, as well as examples from previous projects, for project documents, including the wbs. Analagous: this is where you use a wbs from a similar project as your starting point. Saves time for projects that are fairly well-defined and common.
