Document Summary
The human body - a castle under siege. The innate immune components are the moats, walls, traps, alarms, scouts & infantry. Their role is to repel the attackers and prevent invasion and colonisation. Most components of innate immunity present prior to infection. Components include physical barriers, cellular constituents, chemical constituents (considerable overlap) Cellular constituents like immune cells and chemical constituents like singular molecules. There is a considerable overlap between how all of these work. Mucous membranes (gi tract, respiratory tract, urogenital tract) The ability of muscles in gi tract to keep food moving, and that limits the amount of pathogen from getting in as it moves from time to time. The harmless bacteria that helps us digest our food. They prevent new bacteria/pathogens from colonizing and taking over their home. Keeps the sin moist but it has anti-bacterial agent to it. Moves the mucous along to prevent bacteria from contacting the surface.
