Tutorial 4 - Drug Education - Strategies in Use
SDEP D.E.M.O Lesson
This DVD Demonstrates a range of strategies used in a Yr 3 Drug Education Lesson on Prescriptive
and Non Prescriptive medicines. Answer the following questions in relation to the lesson watched.
1. Describe the strategies employed by Judy in the Lesson :

1. Summarised previous lesson and asked students to recall prior knowledge
2. Introduce activity – Classifying in to groups
o Brief explanation of activity
o Provided instructions
▪ Classifying the drugs in to two groups
▪ Focused on motor skills – concrete as it was more hands on
3. Reminder of the rules of group work before sending children in to groups
4. Group leaders come and collect items for activity
5. The rest of the children go back to their desks
6. Children discuss among themselves about different medicine and journeys to the
doctors when they viewed the instructions on the back of the medicine
7. Children back to mat
8. Class discussion of the different types of medicine
o Teacher accepting of any idea/response
