Definition: reflection is a process of reviewing an experience of practice in order to describe analyse, evaluate and so inform learning about practice. It is the examination of personal thoughts and actions. To be useful to professional practice, we need to link reflection with critical enquiry, problem solving and clinical reasoning. Traditionally, effective professional practice is defined as using theory and technique from scientific knowledge to solve well-defined problems. Is often undertaken by individuals, but also be done as a group. Ex: reflecting on a critical incident (a debriefing) Useful in mentoring and peer supervision: benefit of reflective practice. Gain insight into yourself or your practice. Help to deal with change: re-evaluate old knowledge and incorporate new knowledge into practice. Help to deal with situations of uncertainty, instability, uniqueness and value conflict . Help to express your tacit knowledge and make sense of intuition and hunches": hcp need more than just knowledge comprehension.
