13. List several abnormal urine components, and name the condition characterised by the
presence of detectable amounts of each
14. Define micturition and describe its neural control
Gross anatomy of kidney and its covering
Ureter – kidney to bladder
Urethra – bladder to outside.
Kidneys – sit posterior and high
They are retro ( =behind) peritoneum (= the membrane that lines the abdominal cavity)

Right kidney is slightly lower then left kidney.
Coverings of kidney
Renal fascia = outer most layer function is t
hold kidney in place and enclosed.
Fat capsule = adipose tissue that surround
entire kidney and acts as a cushion.
Renal capsule = inner most layer , wraps around
kidney and can stretch and recoil and is very
tight around the kindy and prevents it from any
infection.
Inside of Kidney
Broken into 2 different parts
1- Renal cortex – outside
2- Renal medulla – inside darker part
Renal columns – extension of cortex
and they split up the pyramids
Papilla – passage way ,
major calyx – where the minor calyx
combine
Follow the blood supply through the kidney
Point of kidney – is to filter our blood and produce urine.
Have arteries and veins
