Document Summary

Lecture 12 - statistical correction techniques/ guide to control techniques. Ancova = increases sensitivity by extracting variance from random error in the dv. Ancova ancova subtracts the variation due to confounding iv and adjusts the condition means. The adjusted condition means are estimates of what the condition means would have been if the groups had not differed on the confound/ covariate. So if each group has been the same on pav iv. Then the ancova will do an anova on normal data. Efficiency issues: requires extra measures need to measure each variable you need to correct for. Compute partial correlations, enter the confounding iv as factor in the correlation which removes the effect of the confound by creating residual scores. These residual scores replace raw scores in calculating correlations. Control for the effects of the confound(s), assess the relative importance of theoretically relevant competing constructs. i. e. the ivs and potential confounds.
