Document Summary

We see with our brains/minds, and we do not see all that meets our eyes. Wundt established the first experimental psychology lab in 1879. He developed a method called introspection - because he knew that we see with our mind/brain, and we don"t see all that meets our eyes. Objects in space around us appear to possess the qualities of our sensations. They appear to have an odor or a taste, and so on. Yet these qualities of sensations belong only to our nervous systemeven when we know this, however, the illusion does not cease - Na ve realism - the mistaken notion that perception is a veridical experience of the physical world. The most important structure in the eye is the retina - it contains photosensitive structures that convert electromagnetic radiation (light) into electrochemical (neural) energy. Transduction is achieved through the action of light sensitive chemicals called visual pigments.
