• What happens at schools to find a way forward – need to be clear about social justice
• Social justice – appropriated by others (the old right)
• Truth claims and banter differ on social media
Terms:
• Whitewashed – hegemony in the field
• Structural racism – eg too Asian
• Freedom of speech – name given to bad behaviour
• Check your privilege/ while
• Social justice warrior, not because you care but because you’re right
• White fragility – infrequently challenged
• Triggered
• Black lives matter – all lived matter – uncomfortable talking about this
• Unchallenged that don’t relate to people of that colour – using race to talk about people
with colour
Social Justice:
• Truth claims about justice – people in conflicting positions/experiences
• Equal access to opportunities
• Human rights and equality
• Growth for social and economic development
• Security not at the expense of Others
• Dignity – opposite of humiliation
• Looking at providing equitable changes for all students to succeed in school – recognition

• What is the model of what we are meant to be like – most represents
School:
• Place of sorting – placed into categories
• Talent is:
o The ability to work independently
o Long concentration span
o Self-correcting abilities
o These equate to the correct form of cultural capital
