Vicky and Thanh:
• Virtual schoolbag – what do they have (concrete stuff but also theoretical, bring
into an environment that cultural capital is wanted
• Cultural capital(s) – experiences they the 2 children have had, most neither here or
there, each bring in something different and valuable, others have more chances and
others more barriers (socio-cultural background – who they are)

in everything not just one aspect of the schooling, changing of the balance of power I
partly within the hands of the teachers (while there are certain guidelines), certain
assumptions brought in by the teachers (either positive or negative, influenced by

their certain background that they have certain identifiers that are the same)

Essay:
• 1 September – 25% - 1500 words, including quotes (excluding reference list)
• Objectives:
o Demonstrate understanding of key educational concepts, contexts and
issues.
o Demonstrate ability to reflect on and synthesise academic literature to
theorise about the practices of schooling (connects the arguments and ideas
across different writing and concepts – how does it all relate/ explain and
connect to each other – not only what but how)
o Demonstrate ability to provide written explanations and analyses that are
clear, logical, convincing, concise and free of textual errors (writing skills,
paragraphs, double-spaced, linking words)
