Document Summary

Lecture 12 coronary artery disease and acutecoronary syndrome. Period of sustained chest pain that does not resolve after. 15-20 minutes and is unresponsive to glyceryl trinitrate: may be due to unstable angina or mi. Treat by targeting cardiac work and blood supply (organic nitrates, vasodilators, b-blockers); underlying atherosclerosis (statins); anti-thrombotic therapy (aspirin: unstable angina pain occurring with reduced exertion, culminating in pain at rest. Similar pathology to an mi, similar tx as for nstemi (non-st segment elevation myocardial infarction) Treat with antiplatelet drugs, organic nitrates, etc: myocardial infarction sudden occlusion of a coronary vessel leading to death of cardiac tissue due to oxygen deprivation. The location and size of the block determines the extent of the damage. Treat with restoration of myocardial flow by physical and pharmacological means. Due to atherosclerotic plaque and inappropriate vasoconstriction within one or more blood vessels.
