Document Summary

Until 2010 or so, most organisations constructed and maintained their own computing infrastructure. Organisations purchased or leased hardware, installed it on their premises, and used it to support email, web- sites, e-commerce and accounting and operation systems. After 2010, organisations began moving their computing infrastructure to the cloud. The cloud is the elastic leasing of pooled computer resources over the internet. The term cloud is used because most early diagrams of three-tier and other internet-based systems used a cloud symbol to represent the internet. The term elastic, means that the computing resources leased can be increased or decreased dynamically, programmatically, in a short span of time and that organisations pay for just the resources they use. The cloud vendor can provision servers worldwide using the cloud; if a good portion of the excess demand is in. Singapore, for example, it can provision extra servers in asia and reduce wait time due to global transmission delays.
