Systems i am part of: healthcare system, political system, sydney water system, hecs system, solar system. Items of a set have no purpose unless they are put into use in a system. E. g bag of equipment on the floor is part of a set. Open system has feedback loops, open to external environment. (cid:523)e. g a tree or a person"s body(cid:524) Closed system is closed to external environment (e. g battery) Types of systems (cynefin: simple e. g toaster, kettle, phone, complicated e. g accounting software, surgical equipment, a system of laws complicated requires expertise. Need someone who is trained/knows what to do: complex (focus of this course) e. g wicked problems like terrorism, homelessness, drug addiction, social inequality etc, chaotic e. g an unfolding crime scene, an emergency, someone in grave danger etc. System a set of parts connected to one another to achieve a certain goal. Social problems lend themselves to a wider system.
