Document Summary
Preparation for professional experience, quality assurance processes, parent/teacher interviews. Fair, consistent an defensible judgement of achievement for all students. A person who is grappling with a wide range of challenges, of which, engagement in academic study is but one challenge and it may not (out of necessity) be their highest priority. You have a teaching-learning relationship with that student. What you say and do (even your tone and body language) will be reported back to the student, sometimes with a parent"s spin. It will impact, positively or negatively, on your relationship with that student. Parents will use their own school experience to understand their child"s experiences. Listen to what parents say to understand the basis of their thinking, then help them to understand the differences and what that means for their child"s engagement. Parents are there to learn about, understand and gauge you as their child"s teacher. You share responsibility for each student with their parents.
