What is humanism?
—> abstract concept with many connotations no single definition but
mostly used to refer to ideas of mutual respect, freedom, democracy
and individual rights
- commonly associatied with a secular attitude to life, such that science
and reason and a capacity for rational discussion and mutual
tolerance are held to be essential qualities for scoial well-being
across the world
-associated with freedom of inquiry
Marxist Humanism: associated with Marx’s early writings
—> emphasises the development of individual potential toward a society
free of exploitation and cooperation toward the fulfilment of universal
human needs
What is socialist alienation?
Alienation based on Marx’s observation that workers within capitalism are
alienated from their labour
