Personality psychology is a young eld but humans have always cared about personality. First seen in confucianism (475 bce) talking about loyalty and faithfulness. English term used for the rst time in 14th century. Refers to the quality of being a person. What is unique to our species rationality, intellect and moral virtue. Personality as role in the drama of life. Separate from social roles of the drama of life. Physical vs psychological psychological but not cognitive abilities. Personal identity and self concept when one is asked to describe oneself. Personality refers to enduring, relatively broad di erences between people that are. Values, personality traits and interpersonal attributes are often referred to of group life, including learning and communicating about other people"s personality. Dunbar argues that human intelligence evolved to handle the complexities. As brain size of social cortex increases, so does group size. Human group size as predicted by dunbar"s model comes out to about 150.
