Week 5 lecture: land use planning (cid:615)part (cid:575)(cid:616) Land use planning, or, physical development planning, produces plans known as (cid:453) master plan . The central focus of land use planning is on how land particularly urban land should be used for housing, industry, retail, open space and other activities. Land use planning is inextricably linked to transportation, capital improvements and infrastructure (cid:472)legates and stout (cid:434)(cid:432)(cid:433)(cid:433), p (cid:435)(cid:441)(cid:441)(cid:473) Location principles are guidelines for placing land uses corresponding to physical characteristics of the site, infrastructure, and other land uses. An example: (cid:455)living areas need to be convenient to employment, shopping areas, leisure-activity sites, public transportation and thoroughfares, open space, and community facilities.
