Glomeruli can be visualised using immunohistochemistry (wt-1 which stains podocytes or pna) Ureteric tree visualised by staining with calbindin-28 or cytokeratin. Addition of bmp-4 to culture regulates kidney development. Method: bmp-4 (260ng/ml) or vehicle added to culture and grow for 48h. Method: add dex of varying concentrations to rat metanephroi. Glucocorticoids have to be dissolved in solvent e. g. ethanol - both are inhibitory at higher dose.
