Started of as ragtime, bluesy, african american audiences. 1940 - bebop - faster and more complicated - audiences listened to it more instead of just dancing. In jazz"s early days, dance orchestras began to adopt swing rhythms to keep in step with audience tastes. Fkj - improvisation practices from jazz into beats.
